Another Brick in the Wall

From Why Mommy is a Democrat by Jeremy Zilber. (HT: InstaP.) Cool. I think I could turn a few bucks off this.

I tend to think of big government and redistribution programs as being kind of like the mafia. Just a big, coercive middle man who is going to have his way with your resources whether you like it or not. If the mommy thing is more apt, I'm sure we are all wondering when we will grow up.

My best friend as a kid was Richie Folch (RIP) who was annoyed that the nuns in Catholic School would not allow him to bring candy to school unless he brought a piece for everyone in the class.

Would the same Democrat-lovers buy a copy of Why Mommy is a Catholic if it said that she's a Catholic because the nuns make her share her candy? Just asking.

Conservatively the government keeps 50% of what it takes in for itself

So confused. How is this even possible? As Tlaloc points out, if the government runs a deficit, its hardly padding its pocket. I think this is related to the giant myth that government somehow takes our tax dollars and shoves them in a mattress. Government is a consumer. It buys supplies, pays people salary money with which they become consumers (even domestic welfare) - it's a fallacy to believe that tax dollars don't get injected straight back into the economy. Only the smallest portion (foreign aid) can even be argued that it doesn't go straight back into the American economy.

Interesting definition of the government's job, Mark. I'll have to think about that. Personally, I had always thought that "We the People..." sounded a lot like an outsourcing arrangement.
